This year we have been given an allotment! The picture above is essentially what it looked like to begin with. It was laying untouched for 3 months right at the start of growing season. Fortunately it was mostly just long grass with very little weeding to be done. There is something to be said for tending your own little patch and I feel it adds further intimacy to the Druids path..

Benefits of having an allotment or your own little patch

Being able to grow your own food

You can do so much if you plan it right. Take advantage of every little corner to grow things that you will enjoy, even in the winter months should you invest in a polytunnel. You can also grow it how you please with very little or no chemicals, you know where it grew and how it was grown.

Building Upon a land connection with various spirits and entities

In my short time there I have cultivated relationships with the land as well as the spirits residing upon it. There are many different elementals owing to the nearby stream, plant spirits because, well it should be obvious why, and various nature spirits such as butterflies, bugs, snails, rabbits and so on.

Being able to have that needed space away from home

Its a spot where you have put in blood, sweat and tears. Its a space that you can call your own in a space thats your own. If you dont have a garden then its the perfect chance to get a little slice of paradise.

A thriving herb garden! Well, the start of one anyway! Here is a lovely little starter Rosemary. Like many other herbs it is multipurpose and a good all rounder when it comes to herbal and spiritual uses. One such use is to keep a sprig under your pillow and you will remember your dreams! Another is to use it as a bookmark to retain the information better. Rosmarinic acids within Rosemary make it a good anti bacterial, making it good for salves, cuts, bumps and scrapes along side dandelions. It is also said to aid in the treatment of respiratory and viral illnesses but do not take that as medical advice. If in doubt go see the GP.

There is still a lot of work to be done so it is being tackled piece by piece until its all as I want it. We have been making a trellis for the peas with a few more to be made for other climbing vegetables such as tomatoes and cucamelons!

Of all the things I can say about having my allotment so far is the break from social media, putting my phone away and switching off all distractions to reconnect with the world around me. It has been absolute blissful!

Happy growing!
