Remember as always, any health concerns go and see a health professional such as your doctor.
What do you need? You can substitute the peppers for a less spicy one as long as it has spice. To reduce the intensity scoop out all the seeds first.
A glass jar about 1.5 litre capacity. The Range offer Kilner jars for a reasonable price.
1 of the following, orange, lemon, whole bulb of garlic, onion
3 cinnamon sticks
2 whole peppers. The choice of intensity is up to your preference, I used sweet peppers.
1 teaspoon of turmeric
2 teaspoons of peppercorns
5 radish
100g fresh ginger
Apple cider Vinegar
First sterilize your jar. Wash it with your regular dish soap but make sure to rinse of all the residue afterwards. You can also use Milton which is a gentle baby bottle sterilizer.
Next chop up the onion, ginger and pepper and add it to your jar. Grate or finely chop the radish, you can peel it if you want to but it is not needed. Slice your lemon and orange and add it to the jar with the radish. Once everything is sliced up nicely and its in the jar pour over the apple cider vinegar. Make sure the vinegar covers everything or the exposed ingredients may spoil your mixture.
Store in a dark cupboard to do its thing for at least a month. Shake it everyday to ensure the mixture is thoroughly mixed and spread evenly.
I hope you enjoy making this fire cider as much as I did! Let me know how yours turned out!
