It's Summer Solstice Eve!

Solstice is here and it's the perfect time to connect with nature! This year I have taken on an allotment and getting it ready for next year. Next year I will have a whole range of herbs and materials available on my site!

So, what am I doing this year?

This year I have chosen growth and healing themes. Having been struck with a rather nasty pollen allergy from seemingly nowhere, what better thing to do, than make a tincture for that!

Elderflower tincture

Please remember I am not a Dr, you must use your own mind before doing this. For this you will need a 40% alcohol such as vodka, elderflower and a sealable jar. Fill your jar about 3/4 full of elderflower then completely fill with the alcohol. Shake the jar and store it in a cool place. It should be ready in about 2 weeks but for best results leave it for 6 weeks and shake weekly.

What does Elderflower do?

Elderflower is great for colds, flu and for encouraging respiratory health (yes I'm looking at all of you with hayfever). It helps sinus issues cause by hayfever. Remember this is also a diuretic so drink plenty as you will be peeing like a broken tap if your not careful.

Eldertree Lore

The Elder tree is sacred in Celtic cultures as it is within druidry. It is said that a flute made from its wood can bring in spirits. Elder is protective and also has ties to the fair folk. It is also a resilient tree, with growth from damaged stems are easily regrown. Druids would sit under the canopies of the Elder tree and look skyward. It was a reprieve from the sun because the spread of the tree was quite far. In this sense the tree has connections to restful elements being a reprieve from what you seek to rest from, grounding and also wisdom.

Elderflower Cordial

Here is a recipe I found online, the only thing I changed was the orange. I supplemented with ginger instead.
