The Black Eyed Children Of Cannock Chase

I hope you enjoy this read, its all about paranormal activities around Cannock Chase. More specifically the black eyed children. There have been many sightings of these children in the area but I have no qualms about voicing my distaste for “outsiders” being down right rude and disrespectful towards our local spirits with their towny attitudes. Without further ado, lets begin with some brief history.
Cannock chase is a large woodland forest area around 1000 years old. Sizing around 50 square miles there is a whole variety of wildlife, spirits, legends and much more. It is home to plenty of Deer and there is even a rumour that is home to a few Pumas and a panther. It used to hold some very old pop-up hospitals as well as training camps through both world wars including housing PoW’s. Mining pits and colliery stations are still remaining up there too which I will save those stories for another day.
Here is where the story of the black eyed children come in. During the 1800’s there where outbreaks of diphtheria which claimed many children. Since that time there have been many counts of these children stalking hikers, frightening campers and generally being creepy. The children will frequently scream when seen and even give chase if you get to close. The reason this children carry such a name is due to the pale complexion and sunken pitted eyes that give a void like appearance. Another notable trigger point for their appearance is the murder of three children on the chase between 1965 and 1967. The children frequent the area around the anniversary of their deaths with a notable uptick in activity. There has been some drone footage but on further inspection it appears that’s fake and likely someone looking for attention and to stoke the fires. It is my experience when walking through these woods is to carry on about your business with minimal fuss. Don’t run, scream, or even acknowledge them. Its not advised to give chase either, there is one account of someone doing just that only to be led toward a sheer cliff with a very lucky escape whilst another broke their ankle. Its also worth mentioning that during the UK covid lockdown the children made even more appearances. This could be the correlation between disease related fatalities which once again caused the increase of sightings.
